Tips
- If going to the jungle, leave your large suitcase at the hotel. The lighter, the better.
- Ubers are plentiful and much cheaper than taxis
- San Felipe is a great area for dinner and a stroll, albeit not as local
- Don't go to a sloth sanctuary, as they are the opposite of sanctuaries (how would you feel if people's grubby fingers were touching you all day long?). Instead, opt for a hike on the pipeline road or in the natural park. You may get lucky and spot a sloth, which will be far more rewarding than paying for a forced hug from an animal that has less than zero desire to hug you.
- If you decide to go to Monkey Island (around Gatun Lake), ask to be dropped off at the Miraflores Locks on the way back. Then when you are done, catch an uber or taxi back to town.
- Cash is king, and Panama uses USD.
- Jungle clothing: long sleeves, loose and breathable, and lots of mosquito repellant.
