Boogieing In The Sand (Atacama Desert)
Peru is practically its own microcosm of Earth. A mere four hours by car
and you are in a completely different terrain - jungle, mountains, beach, or
desert.
I opted for a bit of joyriding on the sand dunes outside of Huacachina, a tiny
oasis in the middle of the desert.
My very fashionable all black leggings and tees getup that I wowed everyone on
the trail with was an instant regret in the brutal sun and sand.
This was also a chance to try sand boarding.
To be clear - I do not undertake in any activities that require accelerating
downhill in a standing position and pretending that you have control of the
situation. Breaking my arm skiing was enough to stick to the bunny slopes for
life.
I may lose my dignity but I will keep my limbs intact, thank you. So the safer sandboarding variety is to do it lying on your stomach, like going down a slide.
But some spirited (and clearly very young) souls stood up on the sandboard. No
shoes, no safety gear, and just rolled in the sand when they lost control.
They must have been Europeans. My health insurance could never.
The first penguin 🐧 goes, eh? 🤣
