Jurassic Park (Ngorongoro Crater)

Ngorongoro Conservation Area is a giant crater next to the Serengeti. While the crater itself is home to a number of animals, the plateau around is home to farming Maasai communitites. The animals move between the crater and the Serengeti plains, but for the most part stay far away from the farmers. Some, like the one rhino in the park, can only be spotted far off in the distance, as they prefer to stay in the areas where there are no accessible dirt roads. For their own well being, they learned to avoid humans a long time ago.

    Landscape

Aside from the animals, the scenery of this park rivals that of Chobe National Park in Botswana.

      Buffalo

This was the one spot I saw a few buffalo.

Video mash up of buffalo close up, along with a buffalo walking in front of a group of resting hippos.

        Gray Crowned Crane

Rockin' hairstyle and clownish mannerisms, this is one funny bird.

          Hippo

Each park and each day on safari offers something different. The lake at Ngorongoro made it very easy to see hippos up close.

But not too close. Land or water with a hippo is just about the most dangerous place you can find yourself in.

            Wildebeest

More of an upper class McDonald's for the predators.
