Monkeying Around Lake Manyara

Known for its scenery and somewhat terrifying tree climbing lions, Lake Manyara National Park is a worthy pit stop on the way to the Serengeti. Here's an essay in photos:

    Superb Starling

A vivid blue fearless little bird that will steal bread crumbs.

      Vervet Monkeys

Known for their black faces and blue balls, these little guys were fascinating to watch.

They are also unruly thieves. Keep your friends close and your turkey leg closer.

        Wilderbeest

An antelope that looks like a perpetually angry grandpa.

          Elephants

            Giraffes

              Zebras

Zebras almost always hang out in groups, each one waching another's back. Being the favorite meal for lions, I don't blame them.

These animals (and more) live in this spectacular environment.
