Snow on the Rainbow
Rainbow mountain. Sounds like sunshine and warmth, right?
Not always.
Nobody told me it was going to snow on Rainbow Mountain.
Did I lug around a wool hat, gloves, and scarf for 4 days on the Inca trail,
but actually slept outside the sleeping bag because it was too hot? Yes.
Did I bring any of that with me to the rainbow? Negative. The forecast said
"light drizzle”. They got the 2 z’s right - as in “blizzard”.
My supposedly “waterproof” shoes were just about as waterproof as a soft top
convertible. Don't believe what they say, it will always leak.
To be fair, a Brazilian, did warn me the day before, but I didn’t listen. When
someone from Brazil says it is snowing, I'm assuming three snowflakes, tops.
If she had been Canadian I would have come equipped with a full thermal suit
and a sled dog.
To me, Rainbow mountain is a lot like the Northern Lights. The eye will never
see what the magic of photoshop created. It was a fun(ish) short trek (8km)
and reached 5200m (17k ft) in elevation. Not quite Kilimanjaro, but not a hill
either.
