Flower Power (Swiss Alps - Part 8)
Day 9: Zinal to Gruben (Map)
I left the Gruben valley and hiked up through the Forcleta pass. What a treat to have two days in a row of brilliant weather.
The descent into Gruben was all about the flowers. Every color of the rainbow was on display.
As was every shape.
The butterflies fluttered about, some landing on me. From now on please refer to me as the chosen one.
With the Turtmanntal glacier as the backdrop, it was the perfect setting to skip along the trail, sing songs, and lightly roast in the sun.
Until now, the local language had been French. Past this mountain, it abruptly turned into German. That didn’t change much in the villages - similar wood cabins, bright flowers in the windows, and alcohol cheaper than water.
Also, the local animals are gangsta. This cute little monster is having the time of his life playing with a mouse. A dead mouse. I wouldn't mess with this guy, he's straight out of Compton.
