Gone a-Whaling (Antarctica - Part 7)


    I’m not a big whale watcher. To me it’s always a big disappointment.

    You repeatedly scan the water surface, which isn’t exactly visually interesting.

    If you get lucky, you might see a spout of water in the distance.

    Yes, a whale!

    And if you’re REALLY lucky, it might flash its tail.

    Cold waters are surprisingly the most productive kind, which brings every species of whale to these waters to feast on the resulting marine life. Maybe that’s a hint that I should start taking cold showers so I can be more productive too.


      I saw almost every type of whale on this list, or so I was told.

      The most memorable experience was sitting in this little boat...


        … And watching this killer whale surface right before us.

        As they say, the proof is in the (rather bad) video.


        The rest of the time, the whales were out across the Drake passage while I was busy trying to leave this dimension (this is why). Here are some of the photos other passengers captured.
