A 9-Day Itinerary to Jordan
Here's how I spent 9 days in Jordan
Day | Activity | Notes |
---|---|---|
Day 0/1 | Arrive late evening/night | |
Day 2 | Free day in Amman | Visit ruins |
Day 3 | Free half-day and transport to Dana in evening | Visit the dead sea for a half day (or maybe don't. I could have gone without). Hiking group pickup at 4pm, 2.5 hour drive to Dana, stay at Bedouin camp. |
Day 4 | Trek Dana to Wadi Malaga | 28km, 8-10 hours |
Day 5 | Trek Wadi Malaga to Ras Al-Feid | 16km, 6-8 hours |
Day 6 | Ras Al-Feid to Gbour El Wehedat and Beida | 24km, 6-8 hours |
Day 7 | Beida to Petra | 14km, 5-6 hours. Reach the monastery of Petra via backroads by about noon and spend the rest of the day in Petra. Evening transfer to Wadi Rum to camp overnight. |
Day 8 | Wadi Rum | Spend the day in a jeep tour in Wadi Rum, transfer back to Amman in evening. |
Day 9 | Fly home |
Tips
- Cheapest ticket to Petra is via the Jordan Pass, which is cheaper to buy before you get there.
- Adventure Treks Jordan is the trek operator I went with. They have both Dana to Petra and Petra to Wadi Rum hikes.
- If I had more time, I would have made it a longer trek and done the second half from Petra to Wadi Rum.
- Note that there is a 6 day option to hike to Petra, which reduces the mileage per day
